The Cato Institute held a “Capitol Hill Briefing” in the Rayburn House Office Building. Mr. Holtz-Eakin talked about the recently-released fiscal year 2005 federal budget and its baseline projections over ten years. He said that the Congressional Budget Office is just beginning its analysis of President Bush’s budget proposal. Topics included the budget deficit, tax rates, and economic growth. Mr. Edwards criticized the president’s budget proposal, including the deficit amount, tax cuts, and being unprepared for increased spending for Medicare and Medicaid. Following their presentations they responded to audience members' questions. close
