The University of Maryland School of Public Affairs sponsored the first annual forum on U.S. domestic and foreign policy issues. This year’s conference focused on the issues facing the U.S. administration following the Persian Gulf war. The panel entitled, “The International Puzzle,” addressed U.S. foreign policy issues, including international burden sharing for the costs of the Persian Gulf war, decreased defense spending, and international trade issues. Mr. Destler discussed the interdependence of domestic and international issues, in order to explain why a panel discussion on U.S. foreign policy is in a forum on U.S. domestic issues following the Persian Gulf war. close
