Senate Budget Committee members talked about the future of Social Security. They criticized Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan’s remarks, made earlier in the week, that encouraged decreasing Social Security benefits to help resolve projected fiscal problems. The senators strongly opposed changing the Social Security system, and called on President Bush to articulate his position. They used posters and charts to illustrate their points. Following prepared remarks, they responded to questions from reporters. close
