Facing the June 30th deadline for transferring power from the Coalition Provisional Authority to an interim Iraqi government, the United States has to cope with fallout from the Abu Ghraib prison scandal and increased attacks by insurgents while preparing for upcoming meetings with key U.S. partners at the G-8 summit and with NATO and the European Union. The panel examined how the political transition will affect security on the ground, public opinion in Iraq, regional stability, relations between the United States and its traditional allies, and the growing domestic debate over the longer term presence of the United States in Iraq. Panelists responded to questions from members of the audience following their remarks. close
