Foundation for the Defense of Democracies Fellow Claudia Rosett talked via video link from New York City about the U.N.-sponsored oil-for-food program for Iraq during Saddam Hussein’s reign. The program, which was supposed to provide food, medicine, and other necessities for the Iraqi people in exchange for oil, was in fact generating money primarily for Saddam Hussein and his government. Some of the money may also have been used to bribe corrupt U.N. officials, who were supposed to be overseeing the program. Ms. Rosett also responded to viewer telephone calls, faxes, and electronic mail. close
