From the FreedomFest convention hosted by Young America’s Foundation, author Mark Skousen discussed his upcoming book 1776 to be published in 2005. The book centers on three books released that year that the author says made a difference shaping American and European government and political thought: Thomas Paine’s Common Sense, Edward Gibon’s Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, and Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations. The author spoke about the ways each book helped to influence the thinkers and leaders of the era, and continue to influence leaders today. Following prepared remarks, Mr. Skousen responded to questions from members of the audience. close
