Ms. Awret talked about her memoir They’ll Have to Catch Me First: An Artist’s Coming of Age in the Third Reich, published by University of Wisconsin Press. She related the story of the first twenty-five years of her life, including her time in a Nazi prison at the age of eighteen, following a failed attempt to flee Berlin. She also spoke about how learning to draw in prison helped to save her life and eventually led to her freedom. After the discussion, the author answered questions from members of the audience. close
