Witnesses testified regarding the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission’s annual report. The bipartisan commission is responsible for analyzing and reporting on the national security implications of the trade and economic relationship between the United States and China, and for making recommendations to Congress on this issue. The report stated that a number of long-term trends have negative implications for U.S. economic and national security interests. Among the developments the commission viewed as potentially problematic were Chinese military modernization, high technology proliferation policies, and forced technology transfers. close
