Speaker of the U.S. House Dennis Hastert talked about his autobiography, Speaker: Lessons from 40 Years in Coaching and Politics, published by Regnery Publishing. He described his careers in high school teaching and then his 17 years in Congress. He talked about his experiences as speaker of the House with many stories of leadership styles and legislation. Topics included what he learned from organized sports and how he handled the daily responsibilities of the House immediately after the September 11th terrorist attacks.

A video clip was shown of Representative Bob Livingston’s December 19, 1998, resignation speech on the House floor. This action led to Representative Hastert being asked to be the speaker. close
