German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder marked the 60th anniversary of an assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler with a speech in Berlin. Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg and several other German officers planted a bomb in Hitler’s headquarters in East Prussia (now Poland) on July 20, 1944. The bomb went off but Hitler survived. The German Chancellor and the Mayor of Berlin spoke in a courtyard where the plotters were executed. The speeches are in German, with an English voiceover translation. close
