Labor union representatives discussed a number of workers' issues, including the upcoming presidential election, healthcare, and the economy.

Mr. Sweeney criticized President Bush for the decline in wages and in the availability of healthcare. He asserted that good jobs have been lost, while the jobs that have been gained offer low wages and few benefits. He compared the current condition of the U.S. economy to promises and assurances given by President Bush during the 2000 campaign.

Ms. Ackerman discussed the ways that union members are working for the election of Senator Kerry, particularly emphasizing efforts being made in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Mr. Sweeney and Ms. Ackerman responded to questions from labor representatives and the press. close
