This program is part of the “Presidents in Perspective” symposium at Boston College.
Mr. Gergen moderated a panel discussion called, “U.S. Presidents in Perspective: The Shifting Fortunes of Presidential Reputations,” centering on the issue of moral character in the presidency. The panelists discussed George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Harry Truman and others in terms of courage, commitment to duty, belief in public values such as life and liberty, and self-restraint.
