Witnesses testified before the Senate Indian Affairs Committee about the contributions of American Indian “code talkers” during the Second World War. They discussed the contributions of members of a number of different tribes. The witnesses discussed the contributions made by American Indians in the First World War, as well as the Second. They addressed government policies that had discouraged indigenous languages prior to the use of “code talkers.” The witnesses also spoke about the need for official recognition of the contributions of Indian veterans. close
