In this press conference held in the U.S. Capitol, several organizations delivered petitions gathered through the jointly-sponsored Campaign for Reader Privacy to Representative Bernie Sanders (I-VT). The over 180,000 signatures were gathered in libraries and independent bookstores across the country in opposition to section 215 of the USA Patriot Act. Speaking at the press conference were Pat Schroeder, President of the Association of American Publishers, Salman Rushdie, President of PEN American Center, Oren Teicher, Chief Operating Officer of American Booksellers Association, Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA), and Carla Hayden, Former President of American Library Association. close
