The Federal Trade Commission held a new briefing on Spyware Software. The Bureau of Consumer Protection Acting Director, Lydia Parnes, talked about efforts to crack down on “spyware,” a type of computer software that takes over a person’s computer or monitors Internet use without the owner’s consent. Ms. Parnes spoke about the Federal Trade Commission’s first case against a distributor of spyware and took questions from the press. close
