Gaddi Vasquez spoke on the anniversary of President Kennedy’s speech announcing the formation of the Peace Corps. The Peace Corps oversees more than 7,500 volunteers who serve in 71 different countries. Mr. Vasquez talked about the Peace Corps' evolution since its inception, and noted that its mission “to promote global peace and friendship” was vital in today’s world. He spoke about the efforts of Peace Corps volunteers in Muslim countries, noting that of the 71 nations currently served by the Peace Corps, 18 were predominantly Muslim. Mr. Vasquez enlivened his remarks with anecdotes of the experiences of current and former volunteers as well as those aided by the Peace Corps. Following his speech, he responded to questions from the audience. close
