Economic experts discussed the possible effects of the 2004 election results on economic and tax policy during President Bush’s second term. Congress must first finish fiscal year 2005 legislation during a ‘lame duck’ session later in November, perhaps rolling nine incomplete appropriations bills into an omnibus budget bill. Other topics included the House-Senate conference committee trying to complete intelligence reorganization legislation, and the fact that there will be 55 Republicans in the Senate, a number that still is not filibuster-proof. Social Security reform was mentioned, as well as tax cut expiration dates. After their presentations the panelists answered audience members' questions. close
