Neil Gershenfeld, director of the Center for Bits and Atoms at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, author of When Things Start to Think, published by Owl Books, talked about his concept, Internet Zero (0). He proposed a new infrastructure for the existing Internet that would connect individuals directly to potential applications of other technology and information. He also talked about several innovations and applications of computing technology being employed in various projects and showed video clips highlighting the endeavors. His talk was titled “From the Library of Information to the Library of Things.”

The Library of Congress series “Managing Knowledge and Creativity in a Digital Context” examined how the digital age was changing the most basic ways information is organized and classified. The goal of the series was to educate the public on the digital age and potential impact on people’s lives. The events included a featured speaker, followed by a panel discussion, and a question and answer session with the audience at the venue, and C-SPAN television viewers who submit questions to the experts by electronic mail. close
