The experts described the ways personal Social Security accounts could benefit women, the poor, and minorities such as African-Americans and Latinos. They said that these groups need to plan more for retirement and not depend entirely on Social Security, but low-income people cannot afford additional savings. Ms. Starr advocated ending Social Security completely in favor of individual accounts. After their presentations, the panel members answered audience members' questions. close
