The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee heard testimony from medical experts and consumer advocates on drug safety and the approval process for new drugs. Among the topics they addressed were current controversies around the COX-2 inhibitor drugs that were removed from the market after public health safety concerns were raised about their use. Witnesses also examined the lessons learned from those controversies and possible methods to improve drug safety and operations at the FDA.
