Mr. Vargas Llosa talked about his book Liberty for Latin America: How to Undo Five Hundred Years of State Oppression, published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. It examined the structural problems that have prevented Latin America from becoming an economic success story. The author argued that, over the centuries five principle forms of oppression that had impeded these countries from implementing true free-market policies. He also explained why he is still optimistic that things could change. After his presentation he responded to questions from members of the audience. close
