The League’s executive director, Kate Michelman, said the group based their opposition on a series of articles written by Judge Thomas which they said indicated his rejection of the constitutional basis for the right to privacy. They said his speeches and articles indicated he would vote against the right of women to choose abortion as an alternative for a pregnancy. Ms. Michelman said the group would lobby the Senate to vote against Judge Thomas' nomination.
