Constantine Menges died before his book, China: The Gathering Threat, was published by Nelson Current. The book argued that China was steadily pursuing a stealthy, systematic strategy to attain geopolitical and economic dominance, which could lead to a nuclear face-off with America within the next decade. Mr. Menges used recently declassified documents, statements by Russian and Chinese leaders largely overlooked in the Western media, and investigative work to explain China’s plan and its methods of economic and military control. In the book he also provided suggestions for policies that could maintain peace and increase the prospects for constructive political evolution toward freedom and democracy.
