In advance of France’s referendum on the proposed European Constitution, which occured on May 29, the Brookings Institution held a panel discussion on the importance of the vote and how it will affect U.S.-France relations. Members of the panel discussed topics including the impact of the vote on the future of Europe, U.S. foreign policy interests in the outcome, as well as economic and trade implications of a vote against the referendum. Following their remarks, the participants responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. close
