French President Jacques Chirac announced changes to his government and called for unity in France in a nationally televised address. The changes were made in response to voters' rejection of the European Union Constitution on Sunday, May 29, 2005. Jean-Pierre Raffarin resigned earlier in the day and Dominique de Villepin was named the new Prime Minister. President Chirac made his statement from the Elysee Palace in Paris.
