The House Armed Services Committee held a hearing on detainee operations at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Representative Hunter, in his opening statement, spoke about the bipartisan trip to Cuba. He said that they did not see “the gulag of our times,” but a world-class detention facility. Witnesses testified about the medical facilities, nutrition, and legal representation that detainees receive at Guantanamo.

The witnesses were: Brigadier General Jay Hood, Commander, Joint Task Force Guantanamo; Command Sergeant Major Anthony Mendez, U.S. Army, Joint Detention Group, Joint Task Force Guantanamo; and Commander Cary Ostergaard, U.S. Navy, Detainee Hospital Commander, Joint Task Force Guantamo. close
