During the morning panel of the 2005 Campus Progress National Student Conference, a panel was held titled, “Challenge for the Next Generation: Winning the Battle of Ideas.” The panel discussion focused on topics discussed in the book What’s the Matter with Kansas by Thomas Frank and detailed challenges Democrats face in persuading voters in the American heartland to support the Democratic Party. Mr. Begala, whose provocative criticism drew rounds of applause from the audience, said that Republicans “want to kill us.” Following the discussion, the panelists responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. Ms. Myers moderated the panel.
Thomas Frank is the author of What’s the Matter with Kansas: How Conservatives Won the Heart of America, published by Metropolitan Books. close
