The American Assembly brought together approximately 60 leaders in government and public policy to discuss a current topic in public policy for five days. Through a consensus-building process, the forum reached conclusions on public policy issues to be published by the American Assembly after the conference and distributed widely to public policy leaders around the nation. Panel members talked about the extent of American military influence around the world and proposed strategies for the U.S. military after the end of the Persian Gulf War and the Cold War.
