The American Center for International Policy Studies hosted their 2005 Summer Symposium from July 31-August 11, 2005. The Symposium annually focuses on the current “hot topics” in International Relations. Students from all over the world and the United States visit the principal U.S. foreign policy decision-making bodies, think tanks, and important embassies to gain insight on the topics and explore the possible solutions to current crises.

Mr. Rothkopf talked to students about the history of the National Security Council, U.S. foreign policy, and his work in the field of international security. Among the issues he addressed were the function of the National Security Council, goals and strategies of varying agencies involved in managing foreign policy, public perceptions and knowledge of the policy-making process, and key figures in the building of a national security apparatus. Following his remarks he answered questions from the audience. close
