Global leaders convened in New York from September 15-17, 2005, for the inaugural meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative. The conference tackled critical issues, including poverty and religious conflict, through workshops where participants could discuss and identify an agenda to be implemented over the course of the year.

During the special opening plenary session, panelists participated in a discussion on “Perspectives of the Global Challenges of Our Time.” They discussed topics including the withdrawal of Israelis from Palestine, trade relations with countries in the Middle East, non-proliferation of nuclear power, and global warming. close
