Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi was re-elected Prime Minister the previous week by members of the Japanese Parliament. His party won a landslide victory in elections September 11, 2005.

Prime Minister Koizumi ran on a re-election pledge to privatize the postal service. He spoke to reporters about his postal plan and other domestic and foreign policy priorities at a news conference held at his residence in Tokyo. Following his remarks he responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. close
