A hearing with two panels of witnesses was held, titled “Closing the Achievement Gap in America’s Schools: the No Child Left Behind Act.” During the first panel Education Secretary Spellings testified about success stories from state and local communities implementing the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) education erform law. During the second panel, Ms. Jewell-Sherman and Ms. Haycock spoke about meeting the challenges of the NCLB in urban school districts and emphasizing the importance of academic achievement for all students, regardless of race, economic status, or disability. close
