Witnesses testified about the plight of elderly citizens, some of whom were in nursing homes, during the two recent hurricanes. Mr. Bea explained the laws relating to declaring emergencies and the FEMA aid available in such cases. Other participants described the special needs of the elderly, including medical and psychological, transportation, communication, and medications in emergency situations. They also described evacuation programs that are in place in their areas. close
