Participating by telephone, Mr. Curran spoke about the U.S. Supreme Court nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr. He said that Judge Alito was the type of nominee that conservatives expected before the Harriet Miers' nomination. Mr. Curran also discussed the concerns from a nominee some liberals have referred to as “Scalito” and the looming possibility of a filibuster from the Democratic Party.
