Eric Boehlert talked about his book, Lapdogs: How the Press Rolled Over for Bush, published by The Free Press. He argued that the press is apprehensive about being critical of the Bush administration because they do not want to be accused of demonstrating a liberal bias. He said that conservatives have gained greatly from the media’s weak coverage of the Republican administration. He looked at the way the media covered the investigation into Karl Rove’s role in the security leak about Valerie Plame, Whitewater, the Terry Schiavo right-to-die case, and Al Gore’s 2000 presidential bid. He also talked about the Bush and Clinton administrations' manipulation of the press and suggested that liberals need to learn how to better articulate their message to the press. After his presentation he responded to audience members' questions. close
