Ms. Weidman was interviewed about the microfilm archiving of Civil War files to make them more available for researchers. She spoke about the records of the Freedman’s Bureau, a federal agency created in 1865 to aid refugees from the Civil War, especially newly freed slaves. Ms. Weidman discussed a letter requesting pay for a soldier who died from measles. She also showed a tintype photograph of the dead soldier’s father, which was used in a claims file to verify the relationship between the father and the soldier. close
