A bipartisan conference was held on “Human Rights: Uncommon Leadership for Common Values.” Participants discussed aiding the disadvantage through bipartisan leadership and the mobilization from all sectors of society. Former State Secretary Albright delivered the opening remarks. Following each panel, the participants responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. The event was held at Georgetown University’s Gaston Hall.
Senators Brownback and Clinton participated in the first panel of the morning, titled “Ending the New Slavery: The Fight Against Human Trafficking.” They spoke about laws against human trafficking in Darfur and the selling of Southeast Asian children as sex slaves. Mr. Haugen moderated the panel.
The second panel was composed of former Secretary of State Albright and Representative Wolf. The panelists discussed the resettling of refugees in the United States, the conditions of refugee camps, and the events responsible for creating refugees around the globe. They spoke about war, corrupt governments, famine, genocide, religious persecution, and natural causes including the North Pakistan earthquake. Mr. Rupp moderated the panel, titled “Remembering the Forgotten: Helping Refugees and the Displaced.” close
