John Yoo, a law professor at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, spoke about the use of torture by the U.S. in the interrogation of terrorists. He discussed his opposition to the McCain amendment that bans torture. The guest had worked on and signed the Justice Department’s memo on the Geneva Convention with Attorney General Gonzales and helped draft their memo defining torture. Professor Yoo also responded to questions and comments from viewers.

The U.S. Senate recently passed an amendment by Senator John McCain (R-AZ) to the defense authorization bill that would ban torture by U.S. military forces under any circumstances. This week, the White House called for the CIA to be exempt from a possible ban on torture. close
