The Third Tuesday Book Discussion group of the Saxton B. Little Free Library discussed Ross King’s book Brunelleschi’s Dome: How a Renaissance Genius Reinvented Architecture, published by Walker and Company. The book tells the story of Filippo Brunelleschi and the design and construction of the 140-foot-diameter dome of the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence, Italy. The book details how Brunelleschi solved one of the most famous engineering puzzles of the Renaissance in 1481 and introduced new elements into architecture by successfully completing the cathedral’s dome. The book also depicts life in Florence in the early 15th century.
