Attorney General Gonzales announced a federal indictment of Jose Padilla on criminal charges related to terrorist activities. Mr. Padilla was arrested at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport in 2002 for his activity in relation to a plot to detonate a “dirty bomb” on U.S. soil. Attorney General Gonzales said he had asked the Defense Department to transfer the “enemy combatant” to Justice Department control. Following his remarks, he responded to questions and comments from reporters. close
