Participating by telephone, Mr. Todd spoke about a special election held in the 48th Congressional District of California to replace Representative Chris Cox (R-CA), who resigned to become chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Mr. Todd discussed the win by Republican State Senator John Campbell and the surprise that independent candidate Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minutemen border security group, came in third place on a single-issue platform.

Telephone lines were open for viewer comments on news of the day. Callers discussed which party they trusted on national security.

Participating by telephone from Montreal, Senator Bingaman (D-NM), ranking member of the Energy Committee, spoke about a climate change conference being held in Canada. He discussed global warming and the Kyoto Protocol. Senator Bingaman had made remarks to the conference the previous night. close
