After Words with Mary Mapes Brent Bozell interviewed Mary Mapes about her book Truth and Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power, published by St. Martin’s Press. Journalist Mary Mapes explained her role as producer of the CBS “60 Minutes II,” investigative report on President George W. Bush’s National Guard record, and the controversy it created. Ms. Mapes told her version of the story and the ensuing internal investigation at CBS that led to her dismissal and Dan Rather’s resignation as anchor of “CBS Evening News.”
Mary Mapes had been an award-winning television news producer and reporter for twenty-five years. She was with CBS News for fifteen years, primarily for “The CBS Evening News” with Dan Rather and “60 Minutes II.”
Brent Bozell founded the Media Research Center to monitor the news for scientific evidence of liberal bias and to bring balance and responsibility to the news media. close
