Funeral services were held for former South Carolina Governor Carroll Campbell, Jr. at the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Former Governor Campbell, who also served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979-1987 as well as president and chief executive officer of American Council of Life Insurance from 1995-2001, died Wednesday, December 7, 2005, of a heart attack at the age of 65. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2001. Bob McAlister, a former chief of staff for the governor, delivered a eulogy.
