Democratic senators spoke to reporters about President Bush’s news conference held earlier in the day. They talked about the political future of Iraq, the president’s authorization of domestic electronic surveillance to monitor potential terrorist activities within the U.S., the future of the Patriot Act, and the conduct of the war in Iraq. They were most critical of the president’s assertions that he had the authority to authorize wiretaps and his characterization of congressional efforts to extend the Patriot Act. Following their remarks they answered questions from reporters. close
