Former British Ambassador to the U.S. Christopher Meyer testified before a House of Commons Committee on the recent publication of his political memoir. In his book D.C. Confidential, published by Weidenfeld and Nicholson, Sir Christopher Meyer wrote about his experience as ambassador in Washington in the time leading up to the war in Iraq. British lawmakers were investigating the rules governing publication of diaries and memoirs. Sir Christopher Meyer answered questions about the clearance process he underwent before he published his book and the propriety of diplomats sharing information with the public that they learned on the job. This hearing also includes testimony by a former press secretary who also published a book, and a former cabinet secretary in the Blair administration. close
