The Broad Street Books of Ghent Nonfiction Book Club met to discuss Susan Sontag’s book Regarding the Pain of Others, published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. The book explored photographic images of war and atrocities and how such images affect the people who see them. It was the last book Susan Sontag published before her death from leukemia on December 28, 2004, at the age of 71. Professor Raisor moderated the book club discussion.

The program opens with a video clip of Susan Sontag discussing her book in the BookTV studio on March 2, 2003.

Professor Raisor, who played in the high school basketball game that was the inspiration for the movie Hoosiers, is the author of Outside Shooter: A Memoir, published by the University of Missouri Press. Joe Jackson is the author of A World on Fire: A Heretic, An Aristocrat, and the Race to Discover Oxygen, published by Viking. close
