Mr. Javers, congressional correspondent for BusinessWeek, talked about fundraising, political lobbying efforts, and the practices of Jack Abramoff on behalf of Indian tribal interests. He also explained the methods used by Mr. Abramoff to funnel money from his clients to other personal projects. Earlier in the day Mr. Abramoff plead guilty to charges of corruption, fraud and tax evasion in return for his cooperation in on-going investigations of political corruption stemming from the Justice Department’s probe of fraud in lobbying efforts for tribal casinos.
The program contained segments explaining the background of the corruption investigation, a Justice Department news briefing announcing Mr. Abramoff’s guilty plea, and portions of prior congressional committee hearings with testimony about Mr. Abramoff’s activities. Mr. Javers responded to comments and questions about the investigation and potential political fallout from further inquiries by law enforcement officials. close
