An inauguration ceremony was held for Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick at the Fox Theater. Judges Damon Keith and Karen Fort Hood administered the oath of office. Following remarks by campaign supporters, Mayor Kilpatrick gave his second inaugural address. Among the topics he addressed were Detroit’s rising health care costs and a transformation of the city government.
