Ambassador McGovern talked about his book Social Security and the Golden Age: An Essay on the New American Demographic, published by Fulcrum Publishing. He argued that the current Social Security crisis is a myth, explaining that the program is fiscally sound and offering a plan to keep it intact for many years. The 1972 Democratic presidential candidate talked about the importance of young and old people working together in order to secure America’s financial future. After his presentation he answered audience members' questions.

McGovern served in the U.S. Senate for eighteen years. He ran the Food for Peace Program under President John Kennedy and was named the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization by President Bill Clinton in 1997. Sen. McGovern was awarded the Medal of Freedom in 2000. close
