Three of the most prominent recent biographers of Benjamin Franklin participated in a discussion at the National Constitution Center. Jim Lehrer, who wrote The Franklin Affair: A Novel, published by Random House, moderated the panel. Following the discussion, the panelists responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. Richard Beeman, a member of the National Constitution Center Board of Trustees, introduced the program.
The participants were: Walter Isaacson, author of Benjamin Franklin: An American Life, published by Simon and Schuster; Gordon Wood, author of The Americanization of Benjamin Franklin, published by The Penguin Press; Stacy Schiff, author of A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America , published by Henry Holt and Co.
The program was presented in conjunction with the traveling exhibit “Benjamin Franklin: In Search of a Better World,” organized by the Benjamin Franklin Tercentenary to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the oldest Founding Father, born January 17, 1706. close
